Guidelines for Government and Citizenship

The guidelines for government and citizenship are concerned with the study of political community from a Christian, yet Democratic perspective. Over 30 centuries of history have shown that societies are not just a gathering of issue based interest groups but multi-faceted organic communities that can only function through responsible behavior of its citizens and office bearers.

The nature of a political community may be different from time to time and place to place, but in the world today increasingly common denominators come to light. These common features are assuming a state governed international system. For better or worse, the state is needed. To discern universality of standards these guidelines have been formulated by James Skillen, former director of the U.S. Based Center for Public Justice. Christian leaders are encouraged to evaluate the guidelines in their own context and consider their relevance for justice in their nation.
